As a first-year at Texas A&M majoring in Mechanical Engineering, they expect to graduate in 2029. High school robotics and Math UIL sparked their interest in problem-solving and design, which made engineering feel like a natural choice. They had considered physics but ultimately liked the hands-on side of MechE more.
They chose A&M because of its strong engineering reputation, campus culture, and supportive community. One challenge early on was adjusting to the workload – especially learning how to manage time between labs, classes, and personal responsibilities. What’s helped most has been leaning on study groups and not being afraid to ask for help when needed.
So far, classes have reinforced their interest in how mechanical systems work, but they’ve also discovered an interest in materials science. Their advice for high school students is to explore who you really are: don’t be afraid to try things you might end up liking.
